Greenfield-Montague – Bridge Rehabilitation

Project Overview:

SPS complete this bridge reconstruction Avenue A over the Connecticut River including new bridge deck and structural steel replacement on a 1,700-ft historic structure.  Bearing replacements, cantilever sidewalk widening, structural steel deleading and painting.  Full safety features, street lights, and management of detoured traffic with public information reporting.

Interesting Facts / Figures

The bridge was built in 1938 with federal Depression relief programs and funding. The most noteworthy architectural treatment are the piers that rise above the deck with substantial art deco detailing and large bronze plaques.
