Project Overview

Project Overview:

The Route 79/Davol Street Corridor Improvements project reimagined Fall River’s waterfront, reconstructed area infrastructure, and cleared approximately 21 acres of land for future use.

The project de-elevated and removed the Route 79 expressway. The project also features the reconstruction of one bridge, four retaining walls, 3,000 linear feet of box culvert, installation of six stormwater infiltration basins, two new outfalls into the Taunton River, six new and reconstructed traffic signals, 100 pedestrian curb ramps, removal of more than 115,000 CY of earth, and relocations thousands of feet of utilities.

The project also realigned the high-speed interchange ramps with Veterans Memorial Bridge to integrate with the end of the expressway.

In addition to the infrastructure reconstruction, this project helped removed barriers to waterfront access and transportation equity to the neighborhoods east of Route 79. The project also added four-miles of shared-use paths and off-street bicycle facilities, which will improve pedestrian accommodations and accessibility.

This project will be complete approximately four months ahead of schedule.
