Project Overview:
This $12M Design-Build project with MassDOT and South Shore Tri-Town Development Corp (SSTTDC) involved the construction of a mile of new parkway through the former South Weymouth Naval Air station.
Roadway construction included new underground utility infrastructure for future use (water, sewer, gas, electric and communication), new roadway lighting, new sidewalks and a 12’ wide shared use path. Environmental improvements included the daylighting and restoration of French’s Stream and the construction of vegetated water quality swales and stormwater detention basins. Wildlife management and protection included installation of a wildlife box culvert, retaining walls and fencing.
Key Challenges Overcome:
Unique asbestos abatement and demolition of Navy aircraft hangar and lean-to buildings.

The Naval Air Station South Weymouth was an operational United States Navy airfield from 1942 to 1997 in South Weymouth, Massachusetts. It was first established as a regular Navy blimp base during World War II.
