SPS New England was awarded the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) 2017 Silver Award, for the recently-completed replacement of the historic Mitchell River Wooden Drawbridge in Chatham, Massachusetts.

SPS New England has successfully completed the replacement of bridges carrying Route 2 East and Westbound over I-95 in Lexington, also called the Concord Turnpike. Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) techniques were used to minimize disruption and reduce construction duration, including the first-time use in Massachusetts of precast, modular concrete abutments instead of a deep foundation system using numerous drilled shafts. As part of SPS New England’s deep commitment to safety, the firm continues to maintain the “Mission to Zero” Safety initiative. Initially launched in 2011, the program includes several components that consistently reinforce the SPS culture of safety. Every member of the SPS Team, from the office to every field/project location throughout New England, is encouraged to be aware of how their actions can contribute to a safe working environment.

SPS New England’s “Heavy Lift” Design Build project in Phillipston, MA was selected as one of the top ten projects in the country by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) as part of the 2011 American Transportation Awards competition.
