SPS New England’s “Heavy Lift” Design Build project in Phillipston, MA was selected as one of the top ten projects in the country by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) as part of the 2011 American Transportation Awards competition.

SPS Completes Lexington Rte. 2/I-95 Design-Build Bridge Replacement

SPS New England has successfully completed the replacement of bridges carrying Route 2 East and Westbound over I-95 in Lexington, also called the Concord Turnpike.  Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) techniques were used to minimize disruption and reduce construction duration, including the first-time use in Massachusetts of precast, modular concrete abutments instead of a deep foundation system using numerous drilled shafts. SPS Marine Division Supports Sail Boston 2017 With Temporary Dock Systems

The City of Boston hosted ships from around the world in July 2017, and the SPS Marine Division was contracted by Sail Boston organizers as one of the firms entrusted to construct temporary docks from which visitors could safely view the ships.  The SPS Team drove temporary steel piles and placed flexifloats and shugart floats set with access ramps and handrails for the successful week-long event.  Continue reading “SPS Marine Division Supports Sail Boston 2017 With Temporary Dock Systems”

SPS Work at Conley Terminal Featured at Dedication of Butler Memorial Park

SPS successfully helped to create the dedicated freight corridor that enables Massport to remove container trucks serving Conley Terminal from residential streets, while improving the operational efficiency of the terminal and the economic strength of the Port of Boston. SPS Completes Successful Rapid Bridge Replacement of Mass Ave over Comm Ave

SPS successfully replaced the Mass Ave Bridge over Commonwealth Ave in Boston’s Back Bay using Rapid Bridge Replacement techniques, 30 hours ahead of schedule. The operation began on Thursday night, May 10th and was slated for completion by Tuesday morning, May 15th. Construction worker, news photographer among those who helped rescue woman from fiery crash on I-93 in New Hampshire

A special shout out to SPS’s own Spencer Quartarone for his quick action and bravery yesterday evening.

Spencer told WCVB, “I just grabbed my hammer, ran up, smashed the window. They couldn’t get the door open, I guess. I just reacted and pulled her out.”

SPS recognized Spencer Quartarone for his quick action and bravery assisting a fellow motorist. Spencer sacrificed himself and his tools to rescue the driver from her burning vehicle, and we were honored to gift him with an awesome set of new tools. Spencer’s heroic act deserved recognition, and we are proud to have him as part of the SPS Team.

SPS Celebrates Women in Construction Week

SPS celebrated Women in Construction Week this week by honoring the strength and knowledge of the women on the SPS team and the vital role they play in shaping the future of the construction industry.

The week began with a lunch and learn put on by the SPS Structures Maintenance Department. Presenters provided an overview of the past year of work by the SPS team and where SPS is headed for the future.

On Friday, SPS celebrated the culmination of #WICweek with the remarkable women from both the field and the office visiting job sites and sharing insights. Together, we’re redefining the landscape of construction, one site visit at a time!

Maintenance Department Visits Belden G. Bly Drawbridge Project

The SPS Maintenance Department visited the Belden G. Bly Drawbridge Project in Lynn/Saugus, MA this week to learn more about what the construction project team has been working on. Project Executive Jack Pecora and Project Superintendent Jim Jones gave a presentation about what has been accomplished thus far and what’s to come. A lot of great questions from all as well as sharing of insights and knowledge. Another great example of different departments at SPS all working together on the SPS Team!
