SPS Participates in Boxford PD’s Touch-A-Truck Event

In July, the Boxford Police Department hosted their 3rd Annual Touch-A-Truck event at Masconomet High School. This event is one of the largest of its kind in the area, and SPS was able to bring some of our equipment to support the event.

At this event, families were able to get hands on police vehicles and equipment, fire trucks, ambulances, marine patrol boats, cranes, dump trucks, garbage trucks, cement trucks, towing equipment, and- our favorite- construction equipment like loaders, back hoes, forklifts, and more. This year, the Massachusetts State Police Night Wing Helicopter also landed in the adjacent field for the children to see and learn about.

SPS New England is pleased to participate in events like this that celebrate and bring awareness to First Responders and Roadway Workers alike.

Newton-Weston Bridge Bundle Project Update: July 2026

The SPS-Walsh JV has been making progress at the Newton-Weston Project.

Construction of the three bridges that make up Ramp G, which carries traffic from I-95 to I-90 Eastbound, is now substantially complete. Traffic has been successfully shifted from the existing bridges and ramp to the newly constructed structures. Crews are now preparing for the demolition and removal of the existing bridges and ramp.

Crews have also completed bridge deck placements for this phase of construction on the I-90 mainline bridges. Work is now focused on installing the cast-in-place median barrier in preparation for shifting I-90 Westbound traffic onto the new bridge. This traffic switch will allow crews to demolish the existing westbound bridge and begin the final phase of construction.

Southampton Yard Project Update: July 2026

Amtrak Airo Program’s new Maintenance and Inspection Facility at Southampton Yard in Boston is taking shape, with the Railroad Construction Company, Inc.- SPS JV hard at work. 8,000 cubic yards of concrete foundation with 900 Tons of reinforcement has been installed. 800 Tons of structural steel has been erected and is therefore over 50% complete. The exterior wall panel system is next (PCI LYMO) Interior work has begun with Miscellaneous Metals, Mechanical and Plumbing, and Electrical installations

Belden Bly Project Update: July 2026

SPS began the Belden G. Bly bridge replacement project in January 2021. The replacement bridge, a Dutch-style bascule bridge over the Saugus River, was opened to traffic on November 11, 2025, and the demolition of the temporary bridge soon followed.

SPS is currently finishing the contract work, with completion anticipated before August 31, 2026. That means the total timeline from breaking ground, removing the old bridge, building a brand-new bridge, transferring traffic, demolishing the temporary bridge, and finishing all utilities and approach roadways will have taken 5.5 years in total.
